EMANCIPATION

*This film is in pre-production*

In Uganda, Angeli is finally able to send her children to school after three years in an Internally Displaced Persons camp where she lived under the constant threat of rape and violence. In Nepal, Neeta is one of dozens of young girls at the Apple of God’s Eye Center who were previously at a high risk of exploitation but now may be able to attend school. And in Ukraine, Nadya has recently returned from Germany and spends her days balancing the needs of her young daughter, training for her first ever full-time job and preparing her testimony against her trafficker.

What these women have in common with 27 million other people around the world is that they are victims of modern slavery.

When people think of slavery, they usually think of Africans being kidnapped and forced to work in American cotton fields beginning in the 15th century. But the practice of keeping people against their will and treating them like property still exists today on 6 of 7 continents. In fact, more people are enslaved today than at any other time in history.

Many documentaries have exposed the plight of people who are currently suffering from sexual and labor slavery and forced human trafficking. What has not been told is the story of those who have survived these atrocities and what they have gone through to live healthy, productive lives.

EMANCIPATION will follow four people from all over the world who have one thing in common…they have taken the steps to regain their lives after surviving modern-day slavery.

In order for slavery to be finally eradicated, the world needs to be made aware of not only the stories of those being held but also that there is a future for those who are no longer being kept against their will. EMANCIPATION will tell these stories of hope.
